Madeira International Shipping Register (MAR) continuous to grow.
By ECCO on December 2015
According to S.D.M.'s (the concessionaire) data, by the end of the first semester of 2015, a total of 377 vessels were registered in MAR, 52 more than the total number registered in December 2014, a result which represents an extremely positive development for this sector of the International Business Centre of Madeira.
Other relevant data confirm MAR's positive performance. For instance, since June 2014, the gross tonnage of commercial vessels almost doubled from 3.488.005GT to 6.487.866GT in June 2015, representing a clear increase in the size of new vessels registered.
Intensifying MAR’s international credibility is the fact that in July 2015 there was a significant decrease of the average age of the commercial vessels registered from 13.82 years down to 11.96 years, a result of the effort done to improve the quality standards of this register.
All these above described improvements confirm the success of the strategy followed by S.D.M. in order to achieve and turn MAR into one of the leading ship registers in Europe.
